SMART's DDR4 NVDIMMs combine nonvolatile memory functionality with high speed DDR4 DRAM technology. DDR4 NVDIMMs provide a persistent memory solution to significantly accelerate application performance in server and storage appliances. NVDIMMs support Autonomous Self Refresh (ASR). SMART's patented ASR feature allows the NVDIMM to independently initiate a backup in the event of an OS crash (operating system), CPU fault, MCU fault (Memory Controller Unit), BIOS hang, blue screen, or other motherboard failures which result in a hang without power loss where the customer has data in the DIMM that they want to save and recover after a system is reset to recover from the hang.
The Gen-Z scalable computing interconnect protocol provides a simplified interface based on memory semantics and is designed to handle advance workloads, enabling data centric computing with scalable memory pools and resources for real-time analytics and in memory applications. The Gen-Z interconnect standard was developed to enable new solution architectures for delivering high levels of performance (high-bandwidth, low-latency), software efficiency, power optimizations, and industry agility. SMART has developed several generations of Gen-Z Memory Modules known as ZMMs which have been successfully demonstrated at the Flash Memory Summit and Super Computing industry events.
SMART's OpenCAPI DDR4 DDIMM is a leading Edge transformative memory module that enables a data throughput rate of 25.6GB/s with a latency of 40ns and densities up to 256GB. The new 84-pin DDR4 DDIMM is intended for use in standard server environments. It utilizes a serial interface and a differential Data Buffer (dDB) from Microsemi. The DDIMM supports IBM's P9 with Advanced IO (AIO) and P10 processors' memory attached architecture.
Compute Express Link (CXL) is a new breakthrough high-speed CPU interconnect that enables a high-speed, efficient performance between the CPU and platform enhancements and workload accelerators. CXL technology maintains memory coherency between the CPU memory space and memory on attached devices, which allows resource sharing for higher performance and lower overall system cost.
SMART Modular currently has products in development with CXL with details to come.
SMART Modular is an active member of CCIX, which was founded to enable a new class of interconnect focused on emerging acceleration applications such as machine learning, network processing, storage off-load, in-memory data base and 4G/5G wireless technology. CCIX simplifies the development and adoption by extending well-established data center hardware and software infrastructure. This ultimately allows system designers to seamlessly integrate the right combination of heterogeneous components to address their specific system needs.
